Enabling JavaScript

What is JavaScript?

JavaScript is a programming language that allows a website to interact with you and instructs your web browser to behave in certain ways. JavaScript is commonly used to animate menus and validate the data that you enter in a web form.

For over ten years, JavaScript has been commonly used on websites. Not surprisingly, over 95% of Internet users have JavaScript enabled web browsers.

Why do I need JavaScript enabled to use My Community Directory?

JavaScript is used by the My Community Directory website to provide you with simple ways to navigate through our directory and find the information that you need in the fastest possible way.

For example, when you have JavaScript enabled in your web browser, you are able to search for community organisations by entering your suburb or postcode and selecting a service type from the drop down list. Without JavaScript, you would have to click through several pages to get to the information you seek.

Community organisations are also unable to update their listings as many of the timesaving features we provide you with require JavaScript to be enabled in your web browser.

Are there any risks in enabling JavaScript?

Yes, there may be risks in enabling JavaScript, as with any programming language. However, JavaScript cannot read, write or delete anything on your computer, and as such cannot plant a virus on your system, nor can it steal any data stored on your machine. In fact, most web browsers are so confident, they come with JavaScript enabled by default.
