The Golden Years Seniors Centre Inc is one of the largest in the Northern suburbs. The centre offers a wide variety of different activities including snooker, darts, patchwork, indoor bowls, table tennis, craft, mah-jong, card games such as euchre and Bolivia, qi gong, china painting, afternoon dance, gentle exercise classes and yoga. The centre has classes in basic computer skills. There are also hairdressing and podiatry services available by appointment only. Golden Years operates Nundah Meals On Wheels, providing approximately 300 meals a week to clients in our area. The centre has a canteen providing tea, coffee, biscuits, sandwiches and a full meal at a small charge. Bus trips are held monthly and prices vary according to the destination. Concerts are held monthly and the low price of the concert usually includes morning tea and a three course meal. Golden Years has a program called Wheels to Meals which operates on Tuesdays. This service is for people who are confined to their own homes and are unable to get out. The Centre has a bus which picks up clients and brings them to the centre for a shared meal and a chat with other participants. Our bus then drops our clients at their homes. The centre has a new program called 'Out and About' for our housebound HACC clients. Limited numbers of clients are picked up by our bus and taken to a shopping centre where they are escorted by a volunteer to do their shopping or banking or are simply taken on an outing to an interesting coffee shop or other venue. This includes a stop for morning tea. These clients are then taken home or return to the centre for lunch, joining the Wheels to Meals program. The centre operates a Community Visitors Scheme where volunteers visit elderly people in residential care.
