About Us

  • The Refugee and Immigration Legal Service (RAILS) provides free legal assistance in immigration and refugee cases to people in need.
  • Evening Session legal advice by booking. Call any Monday from 10:00 a.m. to arrange an appointment if you are in Brisbane 0738469333. If you are in regional Queensland, Correctional Centre or other special circumstance, call our main line 0738469300 to arrange an appointment.
  • We also provide Employment Law advice in partnership with TressCox Lawyers. Service on the last Wednesday of the month from 6:pm to 8:00 p.m. by appointment calling our main line 0738469300.
  • In addition, with Legal Aid Queensland, RAILS offers fortnightly advice on Family Law: Including divorce, child custody and property settlement. This service is provided every second Friday and you need to book the appointment calling our main line 0738469300.
  • The aim of the services is to assist members of the community, particularly those from non-English speaking backgrounds, in the following ways: • to provide information about the Australian legal system and law. Solicitors and immigration advisers are available to give free advice and referral on matters relating to immigration law and related general areas of law; • to advocate on legal matters, particularly immigration and discrimination laws; • to raise awareness of the public, lawyers, the courts, government officers and police about the difficulties faced by people from non-English speaking backgrounds in dealing with the legal system. Community legal education services are provided. Staff are available to talk on legal topics to community groups; • to research relevant areas of law; • to participate in law reform and policy development. Interpreters can be arranged while you receive legal advice.
