Staying in Place Outreach Program

Northside’s Staying in Place outreach program is aimed at supporting women and their families to remain in their home when their circumstances change and put them at risk of homelessness.

Our ultimate goal is to support families to remain in their home and ensure it continues to be safe, permanent and affordable housing.

Staying in Place provides women and their children outreach support in their own home to address circumstances and issues that put them at risk of homelessness. Our aim is to stabilize the household and partner with families to address unexpected circumstances for up to 12 months. During that time our team will work in partnership with women and their families to ensure they access the support they need. This could include, but is not limited to:

• Support to address personal safety and property security concerns
• Stabilizing household income or help to manage and address debt
• Strengthening connections with their communities of choice
• Support to access employment or training.
• Case management or coordination of existing supports.
• Connections and referral to service providers of choice.

Our team works from an Early Intervention approach which actively supports people to develop their capabilities so that they can participate economically and socially, and increase their ability to live independently.

Our team also recognize that a large proportion of women and children at risk of homelessness have experienced or live in fear of  family or domestic violence which is why confidential and discreet emergency and safety planning for each of our program particpants is available upon entry into the program.

To access Northside Housing First clients need to be referred to Northside Community Service via Onelink. This is a free service for Canberrans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
