Strengthening Families

Supports  families with complex needs who have experienced system barriers in their attempts to escape marginalisation, increase wellbeing and live healthy productive lives. Support provided by a Lead Worker drawn from the families’ existing service network in government or the community sector, who is authorised to work with and on behalf of the family to streamline services. Supports government and community workers already providing services to families. Practice Leaders are available to provide training, support and oversight for Lead Workers, ensuring that they are effectively enabled to work in a different way with families.

The Strengthening Families  approach, which commenced as one of the flagship Better Services Initiatives,  will transition to the community sector from 1 January 2017.

This family-centred way of working  is acknowledged as best practice in supporting families who experience multiple  complex needs. As of January the Strengthening Families approach will be  delivered by OneLink, through a partnership with the Child, Youth and Family  Services Program (CYFSP).
