About Us

The Woodlands and Wetlands Trust was established to ensure the Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary and Jerrabomberra Wetlands are managed to provide rich and diverse environments for current and future generations. The Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary and the Jerrabomberra Wetlands Nature Reserve together protect over 1500 hectares of the Australian Capital Territory’s most significant landscapes. These reserves showcase the importance of environmental assets in our communities.

It is remarkable that, with urban development on their doorsteps, these areas can support the Territory’s most diverse bird habitats, and the nation’s most important protected area of Yellow Box woodland, listed nationally as a critically endangered ecological community. Their existing natural and cultural values are protected as Public Land Nature Reserves under the Territory Plan, but there is much work to do to understand, rebuild and showcase their biodiversity and cultural values.

You can get involved in supporting these nationally significant wetlands and woodlands to make sure they continue to provide habitat for a diverse range of birds and other animals and remain accessible to the wider community.

At Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary we offer a two-hour guided twilight walking tour to spot-light for, and try to catch a glimpse of bettongs, curlews and other nocturnal animals in their natural habitat.

At Jerrabomberra Wetlands explore the 150 birds that call this area home. We run experiences for schools, children on school holidays and adult programs alike.
