Canberra Quilters Inc is the oldest patchwork group in Australia. Founded in 1976 by Margaret Rolfe, it began life as ‘The Patchwork Group’. This fledgling group, which met in members’ homes, has grown steadily and now enjoys a membership of several hundred and its own premises at Cook Community Hub.

Canberra Quilters is a diverse group ranging from beginning quilters to professional quilt makers and includes authors, journalists and teachers among the membership. Many members have won distinctions and awards both nationally and internationally, have had work featured in publications and have authored well-known patchwork and quilting books.

Canberra Quilters offers an annual exhibitiona full palette of workshopsan annual retreat, a teacher accreditation program and a quilt valuation service.  A quarterly newsletter, Connecting Threads, is published and provided to members.

Meetings are held in regular cycles throughout the year, usually from February to December. Members of Canberra Quilters enjoy a variety of activities at both day and evening meetings – guest speakers, a lending library, show and tell, raffles and, of course, supper or morning tea. Do check the calendar of events for the next meeting to suit you!

Canberra Quilters has a wide and varied membership body and encourages new members of all generations, interest areas and levels of experience.

Membership offers many benefits, including access to our extensive libraryuse of the room and equipment at our premises in Cook, participation in special interest groups and workshops and special events.  Members may also submit quilts for display and/or judging in the annual exhibition.
