Messengers Program

The Messengers Program is an arts based mental health early intervention program for young people disengaging or at risk of disengaging from school and their community.

The program teaches young people creative skills across a range of artistic mediums, including visual arts, performing arts and digital and cross-art forms. The program operates across the ACT.

The program employs professional artists and support workers, as well as peer mentors, who encourage and support young participants to work through their issues by learning new creative ways to express themselves.

Participants are encouraged to approach the challenges they face in school, in their communities and families in creative and more positive ways.

The wealth of experience gained over 16 years of operation makes the Messengers Program an important part of youth service delivery across the ACT. At risk young people aged 10-18 years are offered an arts based approach that builds resilience, improves mental health and young people’s acceptance of their diversity.

Messengers encourages artistic skill development and assists young people to re-engage with the community through participating in the program.

Want to Participate?

Messengers runs classes during school terms either during school hours or after school. Classes typically run for two hours with a meal break during the session. Messengers is a free program and participants can join at any time during the term if there is room in the class.
