About Us

Hunter Homeless Connect is a volunteer, not for profit organisation whose mission is to connect vulnerable members of our community with vital services and support. Connections and access to support are facilitated through our annual event, Hunter Homeless Connect Day, our Community Services Directory and our Connecting the Hunter program.

Hunter Homeless Connect Day is an annual event that links people to vital services such as accommodation and housing providers, health and wellbeing, legal and financial assistance, employment, study, and general support to people who are experiencing homelessness, doing it tough and/or are at risk of homelessness. This is delivered in an environment that maintains dignity, fosters a culture of connectedness, and encourages a sense of being a valued member of the community. The event has been running since 2009 and each year up to 1,500 guests attend, accessing a one-stop-shop of human and community services, including free haircuts, massages, immunisations, birth certificates, bedding, phone cards, food, clothing and much more.

Our Community Connections Directory has traditionally been distributed to guests attending our annual event over the years, however, in 2020, as a result of COVID-19 restrictions, we made the decision to distribute it amongst the wider community. It has become a valuable resource in the community, not only for vulnerable people who are seeking support, but also for the services and organisations providing that support.

Connecting the Hunter Program is an extension of the successful Hunter Homeless Connect Day event and provides a dignified and practical way for businesses in the community to offer goods and services to people experiencing homelessness, all year round. It also provides opportunities for corporate organisations to support these businesses, and to help us raise awareness on the real issues around homelessness, reduce the stigma and break down the barriers. How it works:

  • Businesses can sign up to the program to offer practical and free goods/services to people experiencing homelessness.
  • Corporate organisations and individuals can donate funds to support small businesses in their provision of goods and services via a voucher referral system.
  • People experiencing homelessness will receive vouchers via referral from specialist homelessness services to be used at these nominated businesses to help with their immediate needs.
