Environmental Action & Conservation
Clean Up Australia works alongside communities, empowering groups and individual to clean up, fix up and conserve their environment.
We deliver Australia's largest community mobilisation event - Clean Up Australia Day - supporting over half a million people as they annually take to their streets, beaches, parks, bushland and waterways across over 7,000 locations nationally to remove the equivalent of 15,000 ute loads of rubbish.
Over the last 26 years volunteers have donated more than 31 thousand hours through Clean Up activities, removing the equivalent of 331 thousand ute loads of rubbish from more than 166 thousand locations across the country. To give you some context of the volume of rubbish this represents: its end to end utes stretched from Sydney to Brisbane following the coastline.
Along the way we have also worked with communities as they advocate for waste management reform - focusing on the national introduction of a container refunds cheme for bottles and cans, banning of lightweight single use plastic bags, reduction in consumption of bottled water, improved recycling of electronic waste and expansion of marine parks.
