About Us
We are a small day service on Brisbane's northside - offering alternative high quality learning and lifestyle choices for adults with intellectual and other disabilities and challenging behaviours, their families and carers.
Our Vision is an innovative and compassionate community of people with intellectual and other disabilities, their families, carers, friends and supporters that enriches the lives of all.
At KALP we embrace a culture which values:
- The development of the individual
- The development of the community
- Relationships
- The dignity, safety, health and wellbeing of all
We achieve this through:
- Love and laughter
- Creative and flexible responses
- Openness to possibilities
- Innovative and willing participation and leadership
- Striving for excellence
- Accepting the gift of failure
KALP began in 2004 when a group of parents of teenage children at Aspley Special School identified gaps in the services proivided to people with intellectual disabilities and medium to high support needs following school. In 2005, KALP became an incorporated not-for-profit association and in October 2007, KALP became a Disabilities Services Approved Service Provider.
Every parent is concerned for the future and we all want the best possible future for our adult children. This group of parents decided rather than just hope that future would happen, they'd make it happen.
KALP currently operates from the Geebung Scout Den in the picturesque surroundings of 7th Brigade Park, Geebung. We currently have 15 participants with a staff of 10 and a strong volunteer base.
