About Us

The Alternatives to Violence Project Qld offer low cost (from what you can afford to $125), weekend workshops in the community, in schools, in prisons, and with young people through services like Brisbane Youth Service and TeenChallenge.   In our workshops we share experiences, skills, information and our time. AVPQ is a growing community of volunteers who support those actively seeking nonviolent solutions to difficult situations.  AVP has been offering workshops since 1975, in SE Qld since 1991, has neither religious nor political affiliations and is a registered not-for-profit association. It draws its participants and facilitators from all cultures, faiths and walks of life. The AVP philosophy is grounded in the work of Gandhi and Martin Luther King and in the belief that there is a power for peace and good in everyone. We believe this power has the ability to transform violence. Alternatives to Violence Projects (AVP) can be found in all States and Territories of Australia, and in over 50 countries around the world.
