Karuna Hospice Services is a not-for-profit public benevolent institution and registered charity, formed in Brisbane by health professionals and community members. The staff and volunteers offers comprehensive support for the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of the individual. By taking hospice care into the home Karuna offers choice and promotes quality of life. Karunas philosophy is based on Buddhist principles of love and compassion. The goal of Karuna is to offer people with a life threatening illness, and these people's loved ones, to enjoy the highest quality of remaining life. Karuna provides home palliative care, loan of nursing equipment, in home respite care, counselling and ongoing bereavement and spiritual support.
