Community Health & Medical
The Wide Bay Medicare Local (WBML) was established in May 2012 as part of the Australian Government’s National Health Reform.
We seek improvements in Primary Health Care to ensure that services are better tailored to meet the needs of the Wide Bay’s diverse communities.
We are an independent membership organisation with strong links to the local community, including health professionals, service providers, consumers and patient groups.
Our belief is that the health sector cannot act alone to improve the health of our population and must engage with stakeholders and citizens to ensure shared responsibility and to create partnerships for effective action.
To enhance primary health care
Connected clinicians, providers and the community for efficient and effective health care.
The aspirations of the Board and Management are to achieve:
- Better health outcomes through evidence based patient centred care
- Effective relationships between all health care providers
- Effective use of resources across the health system
- Influence in health system improvement through leadership and innovation
- Strengthening primary health care
- Enhancement of the central role of General Practice in primary health care
always seeking to add value
high performance against expectations
through transparency and results
outcomes that matter to people
including addressing unmet need and inclusive of the whole community
with an ethical approach to individual choices and preferences
We empower health professionals and the wider community to be actively involved in guiding the future of primary health care. At the core of our engagement is a membership model that is both representative and inclusive of healthcare professionals. We are connecting clinicians through our Health Care Professional Groups that each represents a major health care discipline, such as general practitioners, nurses, physiotherapists, pharmacists, and a host of others.
