About Occupational Therapy
What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational therapists use a whole-person perspective to work with individuals, groups and communities to achieve optimal health and wellbeing through participation in the occupations of life.
The term ‘occupation’ is used to describe all the everyday things we do in our life roles, but also the things we do to be who we are, the things we do to create a meaningful life and to engage with wider society and culture.
(OTA, 2021)
What will a session of Occupational Therapy look like?
First of all, we need to figure out, what matters most to you. I’ll be curious, as a way to get to know you and your occupations, what matters to you and how you are currently managing with these tasks & roles, within the environment, cultural and social context of your life, in particular within Matrescence journey.
We will spend time mapping out your place in life now, and what’s helped or hindered you arriving here right now, and I’ll help you explore and reset your direction (set goals about where to next).
Sometimes we might need to spend some time, exploring what, how, when, where and with you, those things you’d like to do.
As OT’s use a whole-person perspective, I have a range of tools, skills, and experience in my toolkit, that I can utilise in different ways within a session. These skills and knowledge allow me to assess, evaluate, treat or provide advice/education to assist you with your journey.
