About Us
Community Focus is a support and community liaison and education service which aims to achieve community inclusion for individuals with a psychiatric disability and promote community development and education in relation to mental health issues.
The Discovery Program is a community access program for individuals with mental health problems, and provides an opportunity to be part of a community. Program staff aim to provide a safe and welcoming environment for individuals to come together and work on discovering their own interests, talents and abilities and to have a lot of fun in the process. Discovery Program is not a treatment for mental illness. On Friday, we run programs in Noosa, Nambour and Caloundra.
Community Focus is based on the following fundamental principles:
• the right of people to make choices in their own lives;
• the right of people to dignity, respect, privacy and confidentiality;
• the right of people to be valued as individuals;
• the right of people to access services on a non-discriminatory basis; and
• the right of the community to accountable and responsive services.

MISSION: “Community Focus provides spaces where people connect to pursue and share positive life outcomes” VALUE STATEMENT: “Valuing the diversity in society that makes it strong – it is the cooperation of people from varied backgrounds and experiences – including those with mental health issues – that renders communities supportive, flexible and tolerant.” Purpose Community Focus Association is a community based Mental Health Peer organization. Engaging participants (consumers) as members of the community, productive valuable contributors. Promoting community inclusion, such as social connectedness, respecting supportive relationships and positive productive environments. Proactively supporting freedom from discrimination and abuse. Encouraging and supporting active peer participation in the pursuit of wellness and recovery. Valuing and respecting resilience that is encouraging of recovery. Focused on walking beside the person, exposure to the possibilities of the individual, providing information and exploring choices. Promoting a shared learning environment that supports individual to re-engage in determining their own future, meeting their own challenges, engaging the mutuality of shared experience to establish shared knowledge that informs and assists individuals change management and supports social inclusion.
