Migrant Services

About Us

E-raced recruits groups of young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds from different countries to tell their stories. We will travel together to schools in rural and regional areas to share stories of our journeys to Australia. We give students in rural areas the opportunity to put faces to all the stories of refugees and migrants that are shown in the media. We want to give them first class experience of meeting and talking to another young person like themselves but one who is a former refugee or migrant. We want to allow them to form an option based on what they will see and experience for themselves rather then what their parents or the news have told them. We do a one hour session with specific class or group at their school, share many stories, experiences, ambitions, goals, food, music, fashion and languages with them. We not only have story tellers but we have dancers, singers and fashionistas. E-raced engages students in a fun and entertaining presentation that carries a valuable lesson that they will carry on for the rest of their lives.  At the end of each presentation we give 20 minutes for students to ask question.

E-raced takes place in schools around Queensland but is not strictly restricting  to Queensland only. Our long-term goal is to take over Australia and spread the message about racism and acceptance. The project will take place in Toowoomba but we will be traveling around the region. The E-raced project will benefit the community because it will be fighting against racism by educating young people on the importance of acceptance and getting to know each other. By young people educating each other we believe that the future of Australia will be in good hands. These young people in rural areas will get an understanding on refugees and migrant while they are still young. By the time they move to bigger cities for studies or work, when faced with diversity they will be able to control themselves. Their reactions will be better as they have seen and met similar people before.

We measure our level of success through surveys handed out to schools for both teachers and students to do. We received great feedback from students stating that they have learnt a lot and their perspectives on refugees and migrants has changed in a positive way. We will also measure the success of E-raced based on the number of schools we present to each semester and at the end of the year. Our success is measured based on the changes we are able to see in our communities and the way students treat each other. Without that we would not be achieving our gaols.
