About Us
What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a system of healing that deals with the structure of the body, that is the bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles and general connecting tissue and their relationship to one another.
Dr. Andrew Taylor Still (the founder of Osteopathy and Osteopathic medicine) in 1874 was the first person to put forward any rational explanation as to why the spine was so important in the maintenance of health, enclosing as it does the spinal cord. The spinal cord can be described as an extension of the brain which controls all functions of the body, not only muscles and tissues, but also vital organs such as, the heart, liver, lungs, kidneys, as well as blood vessels and veins. Any interference with the nerves passing to and from the brain via the spinal cord must affect the normal function of the tissue to which these nerves are connected.
Very importantly a set of follow-up remedial exercises will be shown in a simple way, to complete the first session. These exercises will speed up recovery/restoration of normal function/health, and, you will be encouraged to keep them up as an ongoing way of helping treatment to last longer. The motto ‘stronger for longer’ is one which will make sense to you once you realise that your problem is, in essence, a weakened part of your body.
The follow-up sessions are not as long since your history is now known.
About Trevor Howard
With 30 years’ experience having qualified in 1985 in the U.K, at the British School of Osteopathy, Trevor Howard had his first osteopathic treatment as a 12-year-old. Many subsequent visits for various sporting injuries ignited his interest in a career helping people overcome their injuries.
He has a passion for helping patients learn how to manage their problems with osteopathic treatment, aided by simple home-based, self-help rehabilitative exercises which can simply fit into one’s life. These problems can be sports, degeneration or occupation related, and therefore it is a great challenge and privilege to show people how to remain fit and able to continue to do all the things they love doing.
Every patient he sees will leave their appointment having gained knowledge on how to manage their problem(s) and help the positive effects of the treatment to last longer.
