About Us

Girudala is one of the largest housing co-operatives in North Queensland - owning over 50 properties in Bowen and Proserpine, including a purpose build Elders Homestead.

To apply to become a Girudala tenant - you need to become a member of Girudala. (Membership application forms are available to download on our "Resources" page).

You need to be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander decent, or a spouse or parent of someone who is.

You also need to have been living in the Bowen/Prosperine area for the 6 months prior to applying.

Once you have satisfied these criteria, you will be placed on our wait list where your position will be progressed based on your personal circumstances, as well as your attendance at our community meetings. When a suitable property to your personal circumstances becomes available we will contact you to offer you the property. If you change your phone number or address while you are on our wait list, it is important you let us know so we can get in touch with you should something become available.

Our Housing Program also has a maintenance worker who, as well as maintaining all of our properties, is available for members of the public to hire for basic house and yard maintenance jobs.
