Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal

The Victims of Crime Assistance (the Tribunal) was established by the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 1996 to acknowledge and provide assistance to victims of violent crime committed in Victoria. The Tribunal is intended to be a sympathetic and compassionate forum for applicants to relate their experiences as victims of crime. The Tribunal can make awards of financial assistance to cover the reasonable costs of counselling and medical expenses, safety related expenses, loss or damage to clothing worn at the time of violent crime, loss of earnings, and (in exceptional circumstances) other expenses arising from a violent crime to assist in the victim's recovery from the crime. Primary victims may also be eligible for a lump sum payment of special financial assistance of up to $10,000 in recognition of the significant adverse effect suffered as a result of a violent crime.
