Beverley is one of Western Australia's oldest settlements. This rural heritage town in the wheat-sheep belt sits on the banks of the Avon River, surrounded by tranquil rolling hills, pastures and native bushland. Take a one-and-a-half hour drive east of Perth, through picturesque farmland, paddocks and forests and be transported back in time. Stroll down the main street and admire the variety of heritage architectural styles. Visit the Dead Finish Museum (open from March to November), which chronicles the early settler history of the town. The town has a wonderful art community with the Shire collection being housed in the Beverley Station Gallery. Venture beyond the gallery to the fabulous outdoor theatre located behind the gardens where events are held throughout the year. A series of murals can also be seen as you stroll down the main street, or visit one of the galleries with works for sale. For the nature lovers, grab your camera and head out to County Peak or go for a bush walk in one of the reserves. Spring is a great time to visit with many wildflowers to be discovered and the flowering canola crops are spectacular. Beverley is also the ideal base from which to explore the surrounding countryside and towns, from York to Northam to Avon Valley National Park. Select from a range of accommodation, including bed and breakfasts, hotels and authentic farm stays - the perfect way to immerse yourself in the rural experience.
