About Us
The Suicide Prevention Coordinators work with relevant service providers at a regional and local level to support the development and implementation of programs that increase local community and service provider capacity to identify and respond to suicidal ideation and related behaviour in an appropriate manner, reduce stigmatising behaviour towards mental health, and support services and community in postvention responses.
This is achieved by adopting a public health approach to suicide prevention and postvention that uses models and theories of community development to coordinate, support, and/or develop strategies and initiatives that prevent suicide and/or promote and support the needs of people impacted, affected or bereaved by suicide at a local, community and regional level.
Specifically, this role:
- Works in partnership with relevant government and non-government service providers and community groups to facilitate the development and coordination of activities to address suicide prevention.
- Coordinates, organises and provides training relating to suicide prevention, intervention and postvention with government, non-government, industry and community stakeholders.
- Maintains awareness of and promotes, where possible, relevant services in their region.
- Works with existing service providers to coordinate and support responses following a suspected suicide.
- Ensures that local, community and regional suicide prevention, intervention and postvention activities are consistent with WA Suicide Prevention Framework 2021-2022 priorities and action areas.
- Identifies, and monitors trends and issues relating to suicide prevention, intervention and postvention in their region and makes recommendations to relevant stakeholders in applying this information.
- Liaises and works with relevant government and non-government service providers and community groups to identify local needs and priorities.
- Facilitates the development of appropriate partnerships to target suicide prevention, intervention and postvention at a local, community and regional level.
