Drug & Alcohol Services
The Farm offers a holistic, person-centred residential program for people affected by alcohol and other drug misuse. The Farm commenced full operations near Walkaway, Geraldton in August 2017. The program is modeled on the San Patrignano Therapeutic Community in Rimini, Italy and residents engage in vocational and life skills training, through farm work and social enterprise. Through this work, and by being part of an enabling caring community, residents develop new skills, develop new ways of coping and create a sense of wellbeing and accomplishment.
Since our commencement, we have been continually refining our approach to ensure the Farm and residents’ ongoing success.
HOPE has revised its program and is now offering residents a 16- week minimum placement based entirely at the Farm. Residents can still choose to stay longer than 4 months if they wish to and HOPE will facilitate this. While the core principles and features of the San Patrignano model remain intact, HOPE is making this change to better match resident expectations and environmental factors pertinent to diverse WA communities.
HOPE has also decided to meet any reasonable transport costs of new residents to assist them in their entry to the Farm. Many residents find the costs of transitioning back to community unaffordable and this creates further barriers to their successful re-entry back to their community. HOPE will save a significant proportion of their Board payment and return this to residents on exit to assist in this transition.
