About Us

Situated on the banks of the Swan River in East Fremantle the Marine Education Boatshed is a leader in the promotion of boat safety in WA. This 'hands on' learning facility is dedicated to teaching people of all ages about safety on the water and advancing marine safety education throughout the State. The Boatshed is a Registered Training Organisation and is committed to providing education and training of the highest standard. As a marine education support centre, the Boatshed's specially trained educators work with schools, community groups, universities and government bodies to deliver specially tailored training courses that are also designed to reinforce the Department's marine safety messages. The boatshed is unable however to cater for individual members of the general public. More than 3,500 WA school students attend the Boatshed each year to gain valuable knowledge and skills by participating in courses in power boating, sailing, canoeing and snorkelling. The Marine Education Boatshed works hard to: deliver Marine Safety programs for school groups on site; anticipate future needs in marine safety education; develop marine safety education support material and programs and act as a resource centre for boating safety. Resources include qualified staff, library, videos and DVDs, training aids and facilities; assist in promotion of boating safety to the public and community; promote boating safety in schools and other educational institutions; and train and develop trainers and assessors in the area of marine safety education.
