The centre was opened in April 1986 and was funded through mainstream child-care funding. Within a year Coolabaroo Neighbourhood Centre then became funded under Multi-functional Aboriginal children's Service (MAC'S), With the purpose of the centre becoming multifunctional with children services, many programs were established
Coolabaroo currently has over 25 staff and Volunteers. We strive to have 60 Percent aboriginal staff, with knowledge of Aboriginal culture and Noongar language. Utilizing these skills we incorporate Noongar language and teach the Koolangka (children) much of aboriginal culture.
