Drug & Alcohol Services
Tenacious House is an initiative of Northern Compassion a not for profit organisation established in 2014 to support disadvantaged people groups.
Tenacious House is an evidence-informed voluntary rehabilitation program for men over the age of 18 who want to overcome addiction and co-occurring mental health issues, so that they can go on to live a successful and fulfilling life. Our mission is to provide opportunities for these men to move from isolation, despair and instability to a life characterised by connection, hope and resilience. Building connection is the heart of our approach. Working collaboratively with health professionals and families, we encourage meaningful relationships to develop during the residential phase that continue to grow during our continuing care program and beyond. Freedom from life-controlling issues is our primary goal.
Tenacious House is a safe and encouraging environment where the staff support men (participants) to make the necessary changes so they can be successful in life. Our aim is to give each participant skills and coping strategies that they can apply and use practically in everyday life. These skills are taught through the three stages of our program; Foundations of Recovery; Personal Development and Continuing Care.
The program includes:
- Group therapy
- Equine therapy
- Individual and family sensitive counselling
- 12 step program (NA or AA)
- Work program
- Dialectical behavioural therapy skills group
- Transitional accommodation, mentoring and support
- Promoting good general health and well being
