Disability Information & Counselling
The Carers Association of Western Australia is the peak body for carers throughout the State. This Association provides education and training, counselling, social support, and advocacy and representation. It identifies gaps in service delivery and acts in an advisory capacity to governments, service providers and funding bodies on issues and the needs of carers. Carers are family members and friends caring for someone who has a chronic or mental illness, disability or is frail aged for no remuneration other than a pension or benefit. The Association also sponsors and undertakes research, aims to increase public awareness of the needs of carers, and encourages the promotion of programs to meet the needs of carers. Information on services and facilities for carers is readily available, so all carers are aware of their rights and any assistance they are eligible for. There is a free Carer Info Pack available from the Association, which has valuable information for carers, and is available in thirteen languages.
