Sandon’s one of the more stunning coastal locations in the Clarence Valley, and that’s saying something! Sandon’s natural geography – beach on one side and river on the other – allows lucky visitors and campers to enjoy the best of both worlds. Grab the kayak and head out on the Sandon River. Keep a look out for fish, stingrays and other amazing marine life! Dolphins regularly cruise up the river too. The Sandon River campground is one of the most idyllic campsites you can imagine. But come prepared - the closest place to buy supplies is at Brooms Head, 12 kilometres away, along a fairly bumpy road! At low tide you can explore Plover Island, which sits just out off the rivermouth. Plover Island has great cultural importance to the Yaegl People. Day two of the famous Yuraygir Coastal Walk takes you through Sandon (if you’re coming from the North). It’s here at Sandon that you’ll experience your first deep river crossing so you’ll need a lift across. Sandon marks the northernmost point of The Solitary Islands Marine Park. This was the first marine park in NSW, with protective zoning declared back in 1991. The Marine Park stretches from Sandon all the way down to Coffs Harbour.
