Set in the heart of the New England Tablelands, Glen Innes is known as Celtic Country with the surrounding countryside reminiscent of parts of Scotland and England. A historical town, the first settlers arrived in 1838 and it has more than 30 heritage-listed buildings. Explore the beautiful district on one of the scenic Celtic Country Drives. Or visit Washpool and Gibraltar Range, two World Heritage National Parks. Stroll along the Glen Innes Heritage Walk and see The Australian Standing Stones, the official national monument to Australia's Celtic pioneers. Or go fossicking in one of its many fossicking areas. The Australian Celtic Festival is held in the first weekend of May and celebrates the area's Celtic heritage with music, singing and dancing. Visit The Glen Innes Show in February or the Minerama Fossicking and Gem Show held in autumn.
