The town of Tullamore is best known for its incredibly popular Tullamore Irish Festival. What does the Tullamore in Australia have in common with the Tullamore in Ireland ? Not a lot geographically - but they sure know how to party like the Irish. The Festival features Irish dancers and entertainers, an Irish hurdle race and a whole program of Irish fun. This annual festival event which has been held since 2004, celebrates Tullamore's strong Irish links. Sheep and cattle grazing and crop production is the basis of the Tullamore economy. Wheat, barley and oats, oilseeds and winter legumes are grown annually, bringing the town alive during November for harvest. With a population of approximately 500 people, including the township and surrounding farms, there is a strong sense of community and mateship. Tullamore shopping and facilities include general stores, a newsagency, Rural Transaction Centre and library.
