Barraba is the gateway to the Gwydir region in the heart of the Nandewar Ranges. Part of the Fossickers Way Touring Route, the area is rich in mineral deposits and is a popular destination for bushwalking and fossicking. Visitors can bushwalk or four wheel drive along the Barraba Track to the summit of the spectacular 1510 metre high Mount Kaputar, an extinct volcanic area. Barraba is world famous for its bird watching and was the first region to produce its own 'Bird Routes of Australia' guide with 14 recognised bird sites and more than 190 species of birds identified. Discover Horton Falls, where the Horton River drops 80 metres into a deep gorge, experience the spectacular scenery and picnic spots. Situated on the Manilla River, Barraba offers excellent fishing, water sports and recreational reserves.
