Windang, which takes its name from an Aboriginal word meaning 'scene of a flight', is a residential suburb south of Primbee and Warrawong. It is located on the southern tip of the peninsula guarding the ocean entrance to Lake Illawarra. Windang is popular for its fishing, prawning, boating, windsurfing and yachting. Major features of the area include the coastal recreation reserves, Perkins Beach, Port Kembla Golf Course, Illawarra Golf Complex, Windang Bowling Club, Warrigal Employment, Korrongulla Swamp, Boronia Park, Pine Tree Park, Primbee Park, Ray Crump Oval, Wetherall Park, Windang Beach and Garden Playground. Windang has plenty of barbecue and picnic areas great for family days out within the Windang Foreshore Park and Windang Peninsula Heritage Park.
