About Us

The Intensive Family Support service helps families nurture, protect and keep their children safe. Our goal is to reduce the number of children and young people needing to enter the child protection system by:

  • Assessing the safety and risk of harm to children, young people and their families;
  • Strengthening family well-being by building on the skills and abilities of parents to care and protect their children.
  • Working with the family well before the child protection system is needed.

Friendly case managers work with families directly, including developing practical skills for making a happy home. We are also flexible in our working hours to accommodate family needs, especially working parents.

We work with families to identify their goals and help make plans to achieve these goals. We will also help connect the family to other appropriate services and supports as part of supporting their plan.

Families who choose to work with Better Together are helped to access other specialist supports like counselling, health services, family violence specialists, alcohol and other drugs services and housing.

Families can choose to come directly to this service to see if they qualify or they can be referred by another agency like a school, a Health service, the QPS (or even a relative, friend or neighbor but in this case at least one parent must agree to be referred).

Referrals can be done online at here.
