Spend the night in a ghost town! In the heart of Innes National Park are the ruins of the little gypsum mining town of Inneston which once supported 150 miners, shopkeepers and their families. Today it’s a ghost town except for seven renovated heritage lodges that you can rent by the night. It’s a brilliant spot to relax and chill out and wake to the sight of emus, kangaroos, tammar wallabies and mallee fowl. A short walk away is the clear, brackish Inneston Lake where stomatelites grow. They’re very rare marine growths similar to coral built by algae and sediment. Inneston is a great base to explore the national park and lower Yorke Peninsula. Innes National Park has diverse flora and fauna, spectacular scenic landscapes, secluded beaches, bays and salt lakes, providing great opportunities to enjoy nature at its best with bushwalking, surfing, fishing, diving and bird watching.
