Mole Creek image

Mole Creek is a small town next door to some of Tasmania's most beautiful wilderness and has some of the best caves in Australia. With more than 300 caves and sinkholes, many featuring streams and springs, this unique geological area is Tasmania's only underground national park, the Mole Creek Kast National Park. The two largest and most accessible caves are King Solomons and Marakoopa caves. King Solomons is a dry cave noted for its lavish colours and formations, while Marakoopa is a wet cave containing the largest display of glow-worms in Australia. Tours are around 45-minutes. After navigating the caves, try a four-wheel drive tour of the Mersey Valley, visit a leatherwood honey farm or try white-water rafting on the upper Mersey River. If you're interested in Australian wildlife, stop at the Trowunna Wildlife Park and hand-feed the free-ranging kangaroos and wallabies or take an interactive guided tour and see Tasmanian devils being hand-fed. There are also many pleasant short walks in the area, especially at nearby Liffey Falls. For the more serious walker, Mole Creek is also the departure point for multi-day walks in the remote and wild Walls of Jerusalem National Park. Mole Creek is a 50-min drive (74 km) south-east of Devonport.
