Romsey, Victoria

Romsey image

With a main street lined with classic buildings lifted directly from the template of a quintessential Victorian town, the small Daylesford and Macedon Ranges village of Romsey is rich in local flavours, historic streetscapes, and country boutiques. Visit Romsey as part of an extravagant winery trip around the Macedon Ranges. The local surrounds are home to many fine wineries with welcoming cellar doors and restaurants, while nearby farm gates showcase freshly picked produce. Enjoy memorable meals in cheerful rural settings and sample the seasonal offerings of regional chefs, restaurateurs and producers. Macedon Regional Park and the iconic Hanging Rock are a just stone's throw from Romsey. Take the drive from Romsey to Tooborac, passing through scenic countryside and on to the old bluestone hotel and craft brewery. Wander down Romsey's main street, lined with magnificent Huntingdon elm trees and historic gold rush buildings. Beautiful private gardens are open to the public at various times through the year and Sidney Seymour House – an original 1850s cottage – can be toured by appointment. Take to the road amid bucolic surrounds on the Lancefield-Romsey Centenary Walking and Bicycle Track, an easy eight-kilometre trail, perfect for working off those lunchtime excesses. Romsey is just over 60 kilometres from Melbourne, or around 50 minutes by car along the Tullamarine Freeway and Melbourne-Lancefield Road.
