Relax and recharge in leafy, laid-back Jamieson. Tucked away deep in the mountains beside the Jamieson and Goulburn rivers, Jamieson makes an idyllic holiday spot all year round. There’s plenty for the history buffs to see. During the Goldrush, Jamieson became a supply base for the mines around Gaffneys Creek and Woods Point. Many relics remain today, and a wander through Jamieson’s historic streets will uncover many sign-posted historic sites. Visit the heritage-listed Jamieson Courthouse and Museum for a more in-depth view into the area’s history, or take a self-guided walk and explore the town’s many historic buildings. Summers in Jamieson are spent picnicking on the riverbank under a shady tree, swimming, or fishing – the Goulburn and Jamieson Rivers offer some of the finest fly fishing in Australia, with stunning scenery and untouched banks to boot. Come autumn, watch the tree-lined streets come ablaze in gold, copper and bronze. Cosy up with a coffee and a treat in front of the fire at the Jamieson General Store. Beer lovers rejoice – the Jamieson Brewery and Grill has you covered. While you’re in the area, also make sure you stop by Jamieson Berries. For the car enthusiast, the Bimbi Car and Memorabilia Museum has quite the collection of vintage cars, machinery and displays. Jamieson features a range of accommodation options to cater for all sorts – caravan parks, holiday homes, bush camping, luxury retreats, motel style accommodation or B&B, there is something for everyone. Jamieson is 225 kilometres north-east of Melbourne or about three hours from Melbourne via the scenic Melba, Goulburn Valley and Maroondah highways.
