From its prime position on the leafy banks of the Goulburn River, Seymour boasts historic military and railway attractions as well as popular parks, art galleries and wineries. Nature lovers will enjoy the chance to get close to native wildlife and enjoy a spot of bird watching along the Goulburn River Walk, while history buffs can delve into the town's military heritage at the Australian Light Horse Memorial Park and the Vietnam Veterans' Commemorative Walk. Take a tour of the Seymour Railway Heritage Centre, which displays historic carriages, steam and diesel locomotives and attracts trainspotters from near and far. Recharge with a visit to the nearby Rocky Passes Estate winery or have a beer at Seymour's Royal Hotel, which, in the 1940s, came to prominence with its depiction in artist Russell Drysdale's painting Moody's pub. The Old Post Office houses an impressive collection of traditional, modern, impressionist and contemporary works by noted Australian artists, and The Old Courthouse Gallery is a great place to check out works by local artists. Regional bounty from Seymour's fertile Goulburn River Valley is showcased at the Tastes of the Goulburn festival in October. The Seymour Alternative Farming Expo in February is a chance to get do-it-yourself tips, learn about sustainable farming, and even pick up a new craft or two. Seymour is approximately 110 kilometres from Melbourne, or around an hour and 20 minutes by car along the Hume Freeway.
