After immersing yourself in the past, take a refreshing dip in the natural watering hole of Ellendale Pool, 20 kilometres from Walkaway. Lapping at the foot of impressive river cliffs and surrounded by tall shady trees, the pool makes a beautiful backdrop for a picnic or barbecue - look high up on the cliffs and you might see peregrine falcons nesting. For an equally impressive man-made sight, head to the nearby wind farm - by far the largest renewable energy operation in Western Australia, capable of powering 60,000 homes. From the viewing platform and visitors' area located on Nangetty-Walkaway Road, you'll be able to appreciate the sheer scale of the farm, with its 54 Vestas 1.65 megawatt wind turbines.
