Moore River meets the Indian Ocean at the picture perfect town of Guilderton, where sweeping white sandy beaches give way to tranquil estuary habitats teeming with fish and wildlife. Less than 100 kilometres north of Perth, it takes around one hour and 15 minutes to drive to Guilderton. Head north to join the Indian Ocean Drive at Yanchep and follow this scenic coastal route past a string of pristine beaches and pretty spring wildflowers. Stroll down to the beach for a spot of fishing, or hit the local ocean breaks loved by surfers and windsurfers alike. From the mouth of the Moore River to its upper reaches, you'll also find top spots for inlet fishing, clear, calm water ideal for safe swimming and an abundance of native flora and fauna. To discover the natural beauty beyond the estuary, join a boat cruise, hire a canoe or paddle boat or follow the river's meandering path along the walking trails. Take a drive just 5 minutes east of town and stop to gaze in awe at a field of ancient limestone pillars rising eerily out of the desert sands. Similar to the extraordinary Pinnacles of Nambung National Park that lie 120 kilometres to the north, the Sunken Pinnacles were formed over millions of years. Head back to the township for more family fun with tennis, mini-golf, a skate park and a children's playground. Grab a bite to eat at the general store, restaurant cafe or the country club overlooking the local golf course, and as night falls, find a peaceful spot on the beach to witness a stunning Indian Ocean sunset.
