About Us

The Next Step High Intensity Service provides a free short-medium term psychological intervention, primarily Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Please note for children other treatment approaches are available based on identified need. It is suitable for people experiencing significant but common mental health issues, this includes but is not limited to the range of anxiety disorders, depression, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).

The High Intensity Program comprises of three age streams:

  • Child (under 12 years)

  • Youth (12-25 years)

  • General (26 years +)

The program is delivered face to face by trained mental health professionals. Individuals can receive from six to 18 sessions dependent on the individual’s (and/or family) needs.

The program is provided by CatholicCare at north and south sites in Canberra.

Eligibility

The High intensity service does not replace Better Access.

The High intensity service is available to individuals who:

  • live/work/study in the ACT

  • currently not accessing psychological interventions through other services

  • not able to receive the support they require through Better Access or headspace

  • have financial barriers to accessing psychological interventions

Referral

To access the service, a referral from:

  • a GP with a Next Step Referral Form and Mental Health Treatment Plan

  • Psychiatrist or Paediatrician with a Next Step Referral Form and Referral Letter
