About Us

Logan Central Respite Centre actively promotes wellness, capacity and quality of life, so each person in our care can live independently in the community.   Our program supports frail older people with functional limitations to live safely and independently   as well as directing our service to assist people under the age of 65 who have a condition that restricts their ability to carry out activities of daily living.

By providing care in our secure purpose built Centre we are able to give carers respite from their caring roles.

Our aim is to provide quality care and programs to improve the lifestyles of our vulnerable clients while treating them with the respect they deserve, helping them maintain independence and control over their lives.   We provide Centre Day based programs, including assistance with hygiene, if required, company and activities.  Programs and activities are designed whenever possible to meet individual clients’ needs. Flexible respite is provided in the home and our Flexible Respite workers are able to take clients shopping or to appointments as well as assisting in the home to give the Carer a break.      Our Centre bus (with hoist) can pick up and return clients to their homes who live in the Logan Central areas (4114-4133).    Clients residing outside our pickup area may access the services with their own or alternative transport   Morning tea and lunch are provided with special dietary needs catered to.  A quiet are with a bed and reclining chairs are available for clients to rest if they wish.

Focus is on abilities rather than disabilities when designing programs and activities, mindful that activities will enhance well- being and where possible enable clients to improve physically, mentally and emotionally    Clients are encouraged to engaged in activities thus increasing independence and reducing the assistance needed    With the cooperation of another service provider we are able to provide an exercise program by a qualified physiotherapist, twice a week. Activities within the Centre include, indoor bowls, board games, cards, craft, quizzes, information sessions and bingo.   We have an Art Therapist and a Massage Therapist on Staff.   Currently we are running a “Come Dance with Me Program that uses dance and music to bring joy and stimulate the minds of people with dementia.

Clients are given the opportunity to participate in extended day trips to venues such as Stradbroke Island, Twin Towns, Australia Zoo   Paid entertainers frequently perform at the Centre.  Regular outings to beaches, parks, clubs and other day respite centres are organised on a monthly basis

The purpose built Centre (2013) can accommodate an average of 25 -35 clients per day, four days per week The large modern secured facility is complete with access to shaded outdoor areas and gardens .  Clients can freely use these areas to be physically active, feel unrestrained, be alone if they want to, or socialise with their friends. The centre is equipped with hand rails to facilitate mobility exercises.  The large outdoor room provides a separate area to have activities such as craft, indoor games and access to the pool table.

Our Management Committee is locally managed having both professional expertise and experience in the management and administrative duties of public funding in accordance with government accountability requirements. There are currently 24 regular volunteers who play a vital role in the successful functioning of our Centre.  They continue to work in the Centre and assist with fund raising activities. Their efforts are of the highest standard and we are indebted to them for their time, devoted service and commitment to client care. They attend regular on-going in-house education and training programs designed to increase their skills, knowledge and abilities as team members to ensure their competence in caring for members of the client group.

Clients in receipt of a My Aged Care Package can attend the Centre under a brokerage agreement with their provider
