About Us

For more than 35 years, our youth workers have been supporting young people who are finding life a bit out of control and are hoping to get things back on track.

We can help you work out what you want and how you want to get it.

With your permission, we can work with other people in your life, such as family members, friends, schools and government agencies.

If you are 16 to 25 years of age and are homeless or about to become homeless, our housing workers can support you to find somewhere secure to live, and to develop the skills and supports you need to maintain a tenancy.

Youthlink support

Our Youthlink team works with young people in Logan and Redlands aged 12 to 21 years, providing practical support tailored to their needs and goals.

If you are having trouble with housing, family, school, work or friends, our Youthlink team can work with you for up to a year to support you to embark on a plan to get life back on track.

They are experienced in helping young people deal with issues and challenges.

Youthlink workers can help you with things like:

  • connecting with your family and community
  • finding a safe, stable place to live
  • engaging in school, training or employment
  • managing self-harm or alcohol and substance use
  • leading a healthy, violence-free life.

Also, they can link you with whatever other type of help you need along the way.

Who is eligible?

Youthlink works with young people aged between 12 and 21 years from the Logan and Redlands areas who are:

  • homeless or at risk of homelessness
  • not at school and not working
  • engaged with Youth Justice or Child Safety, or at risk of being engaged by either organisation
  • disconnected from their family and community.

Next Step Plus for independence

Next Step Plus supports young people in out-of-home care to plan for living independent adult lives.

The team also assists young people who have left care to overcome issues that arise and get on track to achieve their goals.

If you’re currently in care, we can help you plan the life you want once you turn 18 years of age.

  • We can talk with you about what you want and help make it happen.
  • We can help you involve important people in your life.
  • We will regularly review progress with you.

If you’ve left out-of-home care and you need extra support, we can work with you to develop your skills, knowledge and connections to live independently and participate in your local community. For example, we can assist you to find a job, access training and join sporting and cultural groups.

We can help you achieve your goals by backing you to:

  • enrol into education and training
  • access health care and legal services
  • find and maintain housing
  • build connections, or
  • whatever help you need for your unique situation.

Who is eligible?

Our Next Step Plus workers support young people aged 15 to 25 years in Logan, Beaudesert and Bayside who are in out-of-home care or have had a care experience after they were 12 years of age.

If you live on the Gold Coast, link with our colleagues at Gold Coast Youth Service for the same support.

Community Youth Response and Diversion in Logan

We partner with ATSICHS, the Department of Youth Justice and the Queensland Police Service to deliver the Community Youth Response and Diversion program in Logan.

Keeping young people out of detention and more widely, out of the criminal justice system, has been a priority for us since we opened our doors in 1983.

Together, we deliver a service that furthers that aim by being culturally appropriate and engaging for young people.

Our workers head out into the community to where young people are, offering a range of support services such as transport so you can safely head home, and access to a safe place to stay for the night if that’s what you need.

They also deliver follow-up support to meet your ongoing needs, such as connecting you with the type of social, cultural, arts and recreational activities that interest you and inspire your pride.

Resolve

Resolve is an early intervention Youth Case Management and Diversion program.

Resolve aims to divert young people from the justice system by helping them get their lives back on track.

This program is for young people aged 10 to 16 years who are at risk of entering the justice system and may be experiencing early signs of substance misuse.

The key focus is on young people who are displaying early signs of anti-social and offending behaviours.

YFS Legal Youth Legal Service

YFS Legal specialises in providing free legal services to children and young adults aged 10 to 25 years, with a focus on criminal law matters.

Connect with us for information, referrals, advice and court representation.

If you have another legal matter, such as a domestic and family violence or civil law matter, you can also reach out to us.

Advice and referrals
We provide legal advice on matters affecting young people. If a matter is not within our area of expertise, we can refer you to another community legal centre.

Court representation
YFS Legal represents young people on criminal matters for offences within Logan and surrounds.

Education
We also deliver community legal education that aims to enhance people’s awareness and understanding of legal issues that affect young people.

Who is eligible?

Anyone aged 10 to 25 years who lives in Logan and surrounds.

Our Shift workers assist people aged 12 to 25 years who live in Logan or the Redlands and feel like their substance use is getting out of control.

Maybe it’s affecting your relationships, impacting on how you feel physically or mentally, or preventing you from achieving what you want out of life?

We can support you to develop goals and embark on a plan to lead a healthy, independent life.

Shift your substance use

Our Shift team can tailor its services to your unique needs.

When the team first meets with you, they would like to find out about your substance use, what is going on for you and what your biggest concern is.

They will help you develop a plan to work out what your needs are and what you want to achieve.

This can include help with continuing at school or finding a job, finding somewhere to live, sorting out legal issues or other goals that you identify.

The team will work out which things are your priority and put actions in place to address them.

If you consent, they can also work with your family or other important people so you have the best opportunity to succeed at making the changes you want.

Who is eligible?

Anyone aged 12 to 25 years in Logan and the Redlands who identifies that they have a problem with alcohol or drugs and wants to make positive changes in their life.
