About Us

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority is a largely self-funded government agency with the charter of enhancing efficiency in the delivery of safety and other services to the Australian maritime industry. Implements policy relating to the operation of vessels in Australian waters in accordance with the Navigation Act and the Marine Safety (Domestic Commercial Vessel) National Law Act 2012. Administers the Shipping Registration Act. Operates the national plan to combat pollution of the sea by oil and other noxious substances in Western Australia. Co-ordinates marine/air search rescue through AUSSAR (Australian Search and Rescue Section of AMSA). Responsible for the light houses and navigational aids in the state.
