About Us

SMYL is a non profit community organisation managed by a committee of community representatives. Services / Activities: Registered Training Organisation and Group Training Company, Basic Computer Courses, Language, Literacy and Numeracy Program (LLNP), Learner Drivers License Program, SEE (Skills for Education & Employment), Trainees & Apprentices - Aboriginal School Based Traineeships and School Based Traineeships, Youth at Risk Programs,Youth Programs (15 - 24 yrs), Providing school to work transition to school leavers, Skills for Education and Employment, Basic Internet and email classes. SMYL provides open access computers with Internet access for clients to use for training and employment purposes. Phones, photocopiers and faxes are available to assist you with your employment and training needs. Statewide services
• Group Training Organisation provides career guidance, support and mentoring for young Aboriginal people to stay at school, get back into school or training, and to prepare for employment through undertaking an Aboriginal School Based Traineeship. • Indigenous Youth Career Pathway Program provides personal mentoring, case management and other aspirational activities to Aboriginal Yr 11-12 school based trainees. • Registered Training Organisation providing a range of training options including workplace and classroom based delivery options. • Aboriginal School Based Training Program, Certificate I in Leadership to Aboriginal School students aged 15 plus. • Offers specialised Language Literacy and Numeracy Programs for people aged 15 to 21 combining a qualification such as Construction, Retail and Hairdressing with Literacy and Numeracy support. • Offers language literacy and numeracy programs to all people aged 15-64 year old under Federal Government Skills for Education and Employment Program (delivered through our Community Learning Centres). • Offers alternative education programs for young people not attending school. Options include Driver Training, GATE, General Construction, Horticulture, Business and Retail through our Community Learning Centres. • Community Learning Centres: Esperance, Kalgoorlie, Fremantle, Rockingham, Mandurah, Karratha, Roebourne, Bunbury, Busselton and Collie. • Indigenous Employment Program panel member. • SMYL Community College is a CARE school for years 10-12, offering alternative educational delivery for young people whose needs are not being met by mainstream schooling. Based in Rockingham.
