Program Services Woolgoolga Red Cross Provide to Local Community: 

Emergency Services: - Personal Support:

Volunteers, Help Australia by offering your support in times of crisis and disasters. You will be trained to provide personal support (information, support and practical help) in evacuation centres, disaster recovery centres or the State Enquiry Centre. When activated you may be required to work 8 hour (or more) shifts. To volunteer for Emergency Services you are required to be 18 years of age or over. Volunteering for emergency services depends on what disasters occur, but local teams meet for training on a regular basis. A police and working with children check are both required.

Pillowcase Project:

To help build children's knowledge, skills and confidence to act in times of adversity, Red Cross run a disaster resilience education program, called the Pillowcase Project.  Building disaster knowledge and resilience.  Disaster resilience is the ability to anticipate, prepare for, respond to, adapt to and recover from the impact of emergencies. Practical skills that contribute to disaster resilience can be learned and practised. Children who participate in disaster resilience building activities have been shown to be better equipped to deal with an emergency.  Project Presenter: Judy Jackson Call 0417 923 333.

Hands On:

Hands On is a local visit by our volunteers to The Woolgoolga Nursing Retirement home, each fortnight.  Our volunteers give the residents a pampering hand massage, hand cream and even lovely nail polish for the ladies; they share a lovely comradery with hand care and a chat.  The residents look forward to these interactions each fortnight and are very happy to be pampered.  Yvonne McPhillips: Coordinator Tel: 6649 2840 | Mob: 0417 492 840 

 

Trauma Teddy ™ : A special bear knitted by volunteers and given to children and adults during traumatic times. lf you are a willing and able knitter, we would love to hear from you. New members are always welcome, Trauma Teddy'" is not for sale. Red Cross will provide pattern and filling.  Provides comfort to stressed children in times of crisis. TeleCross:

 Volunteers make daily welfare telephone calls to frail aged people, people with illness and/or disability who are living alone and are therefore isolated and at risk. The calls provide reasurance and personal contact. Emergency procedures are activated if the call goes unanswered. TeIeCHAT:  Red Cross provides regular telephone calls to people who have little or no social connection with other people. Volunteers call participants at an agreed time, generally once a week, for an open ended chat. Participants are matched with volunteers based on their interests, hobbies and availability.  Co-Ordinatior: Linda Parker Kempsey Regional Office 0265614000

Red Cross Calling:

Annual Doorknock in the month of March with collection centres at Woolgoolga Central Plaza and Moonee Market Place. Volunteer to doorknock an area or man collection centres.  Coordinator Robyn Rooth Call: 6654 1354. or   Judy Boyle 6654 0896 or Email: [email protected]  

Friendship Afternoon Teas:

Our famous Friendship Afternoon Tea is a social event, in which we hold  on the last Friday of each month (except Dec /Jan).  Local entertainment from our local school children, dancers, singers, included we have sing-alongs, quizzes and guest speakers attend, with afternoon tea provided.  A small fee of Entry $2, assists our Branch in funding our local services.  We have a great Team of volunteers who help set up and provide our Afternoon Tea.  Everyone is welcome to join us each month.
