About Us

The Eden–Monaro electorate is a federal electoral area located in south-eastern New South Wales, stretching from the South Coast through the Snowy Monaro region and into inland tablelands near the Australian Capital Territory. It encompasses a diverse range of communities across coastal, alpine, rural, and regional landscapes, including major population centres such as Queanbeyan, Goulburn, Cooma, Bega, and Eden. The electorate includes parts of the Eurobodalla, Bega Valley, Snowy Monaro, Queanbeyan–Palerang, and Goulburn Mulwaree local government areas. Its geography features national parks, agricultural land, tourism regions, and key transport corridors, contributing to a local economy shaped by farming, forestry, tourism, public services, and cross-border connections with the ACT. Established at the time of federation, Eden–Monaro is one of Australia’s original federal electorates and is named after the town of Eden and the Monaro region, an area with long-standing Aboriginal, pastoral, and regional significance. Throughout its history, the electorate’s boundaries have remained broadly consistent, adjusting through redistributions to reflect population changes while continuing to link coastal and inland communities within a single electorate. The region has long been recognised for its varied social and economic character, balancing coastal and alpine environments with inland farming districts. This diversity has shaped a strong regional identity centred on resilience, environmental stewardship, and the connection between country towns and regional centres.
