Allied Health
About Us
Many changes to eye health take place gradually and often go unnoticed or without obvious symptoms. Early detection of eye disease allows treatment before permanent loss of vision or even blindness occurs.
Take an active role in looking after your vision and eye health by having a regular eye examination every two years. If you wear contact lenses, we will usually ask you to return to see us every 6 -12 months for an eye health review.
We are not a bulk billing practice (with some exceptions outlined below). We believe that bulk billing all our patients will require us to compromise the level of care that we can offer.
FEES AND CHARGES
Consultations
For an Initial Consultation our fee is $110.00. A Medicare rebate may be available for this type of consultation.
Scripts, referrals and reports
Copy of prescriptions for glasses or contact lenses which are requested, without a consultation, will be available for collection within 72hrs with an administration fee of $10 payable.
If you require a referral to an Ophthalmologist, please also allow 72hrs. For your convenience referrals are generally emailed directly to your health care professional.
As no two patients are the same neither are reports. If you require a report from your optometrist, please be advised the general turn around for these will be 7 days from date requested.
Other Services
There are a number of services that may incur additional charges. Please ask at reception if you have any concerns.
Getting your Medicare and/or Hicaps rebate
Medicare Rebate: If you bring your Medicare card and your Savings or Cheque account Keycard (please ensure you know your PIN) into the practice we can arrange for your rebate to be electronically refunded to your account by Medicare. Alternatively, you can take the receipt for your paid account, to Medicare and they will finalise any rebates for you. See Medicare website for more information.
Hicaps Rebate: After your consultation, your health fund card is simply swiped through the HICAPS terminal by our staff. Your claim details are entered and in seconds the whole transaction is processed. Once your claim is authorised, you simply pay the gap amount - the difference between the full fee for your purchase and the amount claimed from your health fund.
Bulk Billing
At the discretion of the Optometrist patients with current Pensioner Concession Cards (PCC) or Health Care Cards (HCC) may be direct billed for their consultations. Please be advised that new patients (regardless of PCC or HCC entitlement) may incur an out of pocket expense. If you have any queries regarding this please speak with one of our friendly team members.
Department of Veterans Affairs
Our practice will bill DVA for Gold card holders, and White card holders where applicable.
Emergencies
Emergencies should be directed to the Cairns Base Hospital; or by calling ‘000’ for an Ambulance; or contacting your GP.
