About Us

The Mirani electorate is located in Central Queensland, stretching from the outskirts of Mackay westward to include rural and mining communities. It covers towns and districts such as Sarina, Mirani, Dysart, Moranbah, Clermont, and parts of the Pioneer Valley. Classified as a rural electorate, Mirani reflects a mix of sugar cane farming, cattle grazing, and coal mining industries, with the Bowen Basin playing a major role in the local economy. The electorate’s identity is shaped by its strong agricultural base, mining workforce, and close-knit regional communities.

Established in 1912, Mirani has a long history of representation in Queensland’s parliament. The community is diverse, with farming families, mining workers, and regional residents contributing to its character. Local issues often focus on employment opportunities, infrastructure, water management, and balancing resource development with environmental sustainability. With tens of thousands of electors spread across a wide geographic area, Mirani continues to play an important role in representing Queensland’s rural and regional interests.
