General Cultural Groups
The Surat Aboriginal Corporation (SAC) provides Indigenous communities in the Maranoa with
programs in Culture and Capability, Safety and Well-being and School Readiness for children. Our
officers run these programs in Roma, Mitchell, Surat and Yuleba-Wallumbilla each week.
SAC also heads a South West Queensland regional tourism project: the South West Indigenous
Cultural Trail, an Indigenous Cultural Tourism Drive Loop that takes driving tourists to see Indigenous
cultural sites from Surat to Roma, to Mitchell, Charleville, Cunnamulla, St George and back to Surat.

Culture and Capability
SAC organizes workshops for Indigenous people in the Maranoa to improve capacity in many areas –
computer literacy, management, governance, art, social media, etc – and is always looking for
workshop conveners, so if other organisations have information they would like to share with

Indigenous communities in the Maranoa, we are happy to have a chat – please ring the Manager of

SAC also organizes groups of Indigenous people from one community to visit another community, ie a
groups of Elders from Surat to go to Mitchell to visit the Yumba and the Mitchell Elders.
SAC’s officers also work with the schools in the region to deliver Healthy Cultural Sports Days at each
school for all the students, Indigenous and non-Indigenous.
Safety and Wellbeing, Sport and Recreation
A SAC Officer supports sport and recreational activities for Indigenous people, and collaborates with
other services to develop projects and programs around community safety, drugs and alcohol,
domestic violence, mental health and social wellbeing. Please contact SAC at 46 265 288 to speak

School Readiness Program
The SAC Children and Schooling Officer organizes, for Roma, Mitchell, Surat and Yuleba/Wallumbilla,
the following weekly programs: Toddler Literacy groups, School Lunch programs and After-School
